Fiberglass Tanks
We sell fiberglass tanks with capacities from 50 gallons to 15,000 gallons and we can custom-make tanks up to a whopping 57,000 gallons. (Because the smaller fiberglass tanks are expensive for their size, we recommend a polyethylene tank for situations requiring a 4,000-gallon capacity tank or less.)
Our tanks are made with USDA approved food-grade polyester resin and gel-coated on the exterior for long life. Standard tanks come in shades of gray and don’t need to be painted (but can be with proper primer and high-grade latex paint.) Or you can dabble in exterior decorating and have your tank custom-coloredpurple, pink, yellow, anything-- for an additional cost of around $700 for a 10,000-gallon tank.

All tanks listed are vertical, flat bottomed and domed top. For a reasonable additional cost, the tanks can be constructed with flat tops or thickened for partial burial. For a lot more money, we can make you a tank that can be completely buried. (The standard tanks can be buried up to two feet deep without thickening the walls at all provided they are buried in well-drained soils that aren’t prone to shifting. In other words, clay is out and just forget it in places with a high water table, like Houston.) Tanks come with three threaded female half-coupling fittingsanywhere you want, any size you wantas well as a vent hole at the top and a 16-inch manway with cover. The fittings are an integral part of the tank. Why is this important? They CAN’T leak!
Delivery to our Austin/ Dripping Springs area is $375 for tanks up to 12 feet in diameter, $550 for anything larger. Tricky deliveries (hoisting the tank over the house with a crane truck, for instance) are priced on an individual basis. Prices subject to change without notice.

The Booley Eliminator
 |
This simple but hard-working fellow is a Tank Town exclusive that will eliminate the need for a roofwasher filter, eliminate the time it takes to clean those roofwasher filters, and eliminate the accumulation of organic gunk in your storage tank.
Instead of filtering the water, the Eliminator captures a metered wash of rainwaterthe first, dirtiest wash--before it can enter the storage tank. Because we know that water, especially rainwater, is precious, the amount of water you capture is adjustable, depending on roof size, your particular conditions (i.e. lots of trees overhanging the roof vs. no trees overhanging the roof), and even seasonal variable. (Lots of oak pollen vs. no oak pollen.)

|
A level indicator shows the amount of water retained. There’s a ball valve at the bottom of the tank along with a 4-inch clean out so you can occasionally (maybe
a couple of times a year) reach in and remove accumulated debris.
Large Eliminator Dimensions: 31” in diameter by 7’ tall.
Price: $875.
Smaller Eliminator Dimensions: 31” in diameter by 5’ tall.
Price: $690.

Roof Washers
Our roofwashers are made by Water Filtration Company, constructed of
fiberglass, and include either one or two 60 micron filters. They attach at the
inlet of your tanks, prefiltering the water before it enters the tank. If you have a limited drop from your lowest downspout to the inlet of the tank, you might have to go with a horizontal roofwasher, which is one whereduhthe filter is
mounted horizontally. This allows the inlet and outlet of the roofwasher to be nearly parallel. But it also means that the filter is more difficult to remove and replace during cleaning. This allows the inlet and outlet of the roofwasher to be nearly parallel. But it also means that the filter is more difficult to remove and replace during cleaning.
 |
(Remember: These roof washers require vigilant maintenance. If their filters become clogged--and they will if you don’t clean them regularly--it will restrict your flow so greatly that water will be trickling into your tanks and gushing out the top of your roof washer during a downpour. This is the voice of experience warning you about this.) In the other style of roofwasher, where the inlet is 10 inches higher than the outlet, the filter sits vertically. This style also comes in a larger, two filter size.

Horizontal: handles the rainwater collected from 1500-square-feet of surface or less. $475.00
SF 1500: one vertical filter, handles rainwater collected from 1500-square-feet of surface or less: $475.00
DF 3500: two vertical filters, handles rainwater collected from 3500-square-feet of surface or less: $675.00
Additional Filters: $37.00

Floating Cistern Filter
 |
To use one of these beauties you’ll need to order your fiberglass tank with a full-through coupling . Filters dirt and debris down to 60 microns and draws the water from 12 to 16” below the surface, where you’ll find the cleanest water in any body of water. Keeping this filter clean is crucial.
It’s a good idea to buy an extra filter so you can swap them out when it’s cleaning day and hose out the dirty filter at the car wash so it’s ready to go when you need it: $225.

Pumps
1hp Grundfos: $550.
|
We have become quite fond of the Grundfos MQ water supply system.
This diminutive gizmo combines a pump, motor, pressure tank and controller into one integral unit. (Yep, that means you don’t need an additional pressure tank.) It’s also expressly approved for use with rainwater. The pump is self priming,
has a check valve incorporated in the suction port, and features a user-friendly control panel. Best of all, it comes with a built-in overtemperature and dry-running protection.
|
3/4 hp Gould: $550.
1hp Gould: $600.
|
For a classic shallow-well jet pump ,
we now favor Gould pumps, which can be wired for 110 vt or 220 vt.
(If possible, go with the big juice;
it’s worth it.)
The pumps require a 20 amp circuit breaker to call all their own.

Pressure Tank
You can get bladder tanks in a variety of capacities and dimensions. We’ve found that for most rainwater systems the Well-X-Trol 120 gallon unit works great. These are pre-pressurized tanks with a sealed-in air charge. Because of the internal diaphragm, these tanks offer the same amount of available water as an air tank twice the size.

Note: A 120-gallon pressure tank DOES NOT hold 120 gallons. Likewise with the 220-gallon tank. These capacity designations are the industry’s confusing way of saying a 120-gallon bladder pressure tank has the equivalent draw down capacity of an old-fashioned 120-gallon non-bladder pressure tank.

Filters: Housings and Cartridges
Most of our systems use two inline filters. The first filter housing is clear and holds a 5 micron cartridge filter which should be changed every month. The second filter housing is opaque and holds a 3-micron activated charcoal filter which should be changed around every three months.
Clear Housing: $40.
Opaque Housing: $35.
Hanging Brackets: $4 each
Wrenches: $5 each
Replacement O-rings (nearly everyone unwittingly throws one of these away at least once when changing the filter cartridges and then start screaming when the housing leaks like a sieve when the system is fired up again.) $3.00 each.
5 micron filters: $3.50 each
Activated charcoal filter: $10.00 each
1 micron filter: $4.50 each
......................................................................................................................................
Filter Assembly
This is a dual filter assembly that includes a clear housing, an opaque housing, two ball valves so you can change the filter cartridges without getting soaked, and, best of all, two pressure gauges. Why two? One measures the pressure of incoming water and the other measures the pressure of the outgoing water. By monitoring the pressure differences, you'll know, without a doubt, when to change your filters.
$325.

Ultra Violet Light
We carry Atlantic UV lights which meet or exceed all the U.S. Public Health Service Criteria. While Atlantic offers a variety of models that can handle anywhere from two to 416 gallons per minute, we’ve found that the S37B, which handles 12 gpm, is the ideal size for most personal rainwater collection systems. The cartridge filterswhich you should use inline prior to UV disinfectionrestrict the flow from the jet pump to well below this 12 gpm limit.
Maintenance on the units includes manually cleaning the quartz sleeve once a month or so and replacing the lamp after 10,000 hours (approximately 14 months of continuous use). Use .58 amps or 46 watts
|
|
S37B Mighty Pure: can handle 12 gpm; the quartz sleeve can be tricky to clean (and easy to break): $650.00 |
 |
S37B Sanitron: can also handle 12 gpm and is very easy to clean. The additional cost of this unit is often offset by money you save by not having to buy a new sleeve after you break it: $840.00

|
Replacement bulbs for 12 gpm: $75
Replacement bulbs for 20 gpm: $95
